Call to Worship ~ Psalm 103:19-22
The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. Bless the LORD, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word! Bless the LORD, all his hosts, his ministers, who do his will! Bless the LORD, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the LORD, O my soul!
Prayer of Invocation (FP, p. 99)
Almighty and everlasting God, You are always more ready to hear than we are to pray, and to give more than we desire or deserve. Pour down upon us the abundance of Your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is convicted, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Grant us your grace and peace in Christ by your Holy Spirit. For it is in Jesus’ name that we pray, Amen.
Song of Praise ~ Psalm 29B “Now unto Jehovah, Ye Sons of the Mighty” (guitar accompaniment)
The Apostles’ Creed (TPH, p. 851; FP, p. 148)
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Song of Preparation ~ Psalm 121A “I Lift My eyes Up to the Hills” (guitar accompaniment)
Prayer of Illumination
Our heavenly Father, we ask You to look upon us in grace, as we look away from ourselves into the face of Your Son, whom You have appointed our Mediator and Savior. As all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are in Your Son, guide us by Your Holy Spirit into the true understanding of the doctrines of Christ. May our meditation upon His truth produce in us the fruit of righteousness to the glory and exaltation of His name, the instruction and edification of those listening, and the salvation of the lost through our witness. We pray this in the name and favour of Your well-beloved Son, Jesus Christ, in dependence on His Holy Spirit. Amen.
