Pre-service singing ~ #477 “By Grace I Am an Heir of Heaven” (guitar accompaniment)

*Call to Worship ~ Psalm 47:6-9

Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm! God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted!

*Prayer of Invocation

Our gracious heavenly Father, it is good to sing your praises. For You are a good and gracious God. You are a holy and just God. You are the one and only God. You are all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-wise. You are the eternal, unchanging, ever-loving, ever-faithful God. Help us to praise you now by Your Spirit. And may it be pleasing to us to praise you. May our thirsty souls be satisfied. May our weary bodies be strengthened. Build up your people in love. Heal the brokenhearted in our midst and bind up our wounds. Lord give us a foretaste of the joys that await us in heaven, even in the midst of our tears. For we pray all these thing in Jesus name, Amen.

*God’s Greetings ~ Psalm 124:8; Revelation 1:4-5

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth…

Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come,

and from the sevenfold Spirit who is before his throne,

and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.

*Song of Praise ~ Psalm 146 “Praise the LORD! My Soul, O Praise Him!” (guitar accompaniment)

Reading of God’s Law ~ Exodus 20:1-17 (p. xvi in Trinity Psalter Hymnal or p. 61 in ESV Bible)

Prayer of Confession (FP p. 100)

Our Father, we are sinful, and You are holy. We recognize that we have heard in Your law difficult words, knowing how often we have offended You in thought, word, and deed, not only by obvious violations, but by failing to conform to its perfect commands, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. Apart from Christ, there is nothing in us that gives us reason for hope; for where we thought we were well, we are sick in soul. Where we thought we were holy, we are in truth unholy and ungrateful. Our hearts are filled with the love of the world; our minds are dark and are assailed by doubts; our wills are too often given to selfishness and our bodies to laziness and unrighteousness. By sinning against our neighbours, we have also sinned against You, in whose image they were created. In this time of silent confession, we bring You our particular sins (moment of silence).

*Declaration of Pardon ~ Galatians 3:13-14

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

*Song of Thanksgiving ~ #283 “Fairest Lord Jesus” (guitar accompaniment)

Congregational Prayer followed by The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*Song of Preparation ~ Psalm 23B “The LORD’s My Shepherd” (guitar accompaniment)

Prayer of Illumination

Scripture Reading ~ 1 Peter 2:13-17 (p. 1014)

Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever…Grace be with all of you.
