*Call to Worship ~ Psalm 33:1-5
Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.
*Prayer of Invocation (FP, p. 99)
Almighty God, to whom our hearts are open, our desires are known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the gracious power of Your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love You and worthily magnify Your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.
*God’s Greetings ~ Jude 1-2
To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: May mercy, peace and love be multiplied to you.
Reading of God’s Law ~ Exodus 20:1-17 (p. xvi in Trinity Psalter Hymnal or p. 61 in ESV Bible)
Prayer of Confession (FP, p. 101)
Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from Your ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against Your holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done, and so we are helpless without You. O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders, spare us, as we confess our faults, restore us, as we are penitent, according to Your promises declared to us in Christ Jesus our Lord, and grant, O most merciful Father, for His sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and devout life, to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
(moment of silence to confess particular sins, followed by a prayer by the minister).
*Declaration of Pardon ~ Isaiah 53:3-5; 2 Corinthians 5:21
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed…For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Congregational Prayer followed by The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
